小学生が習う算数は何の役に立つのか

・足し算(addition)引き算(subtraction)は誰でもお金の計算(calculation)に使う

・掛け算(multiplication)割り算(division)は消費税(a consumption tax, an excise tax)の計算に使う

・小数(a decimal fraction)も消費税の計算や利息(interest)の計算に使う

・分数(a fraction)は何の役に立つのか

 電卓(a calculator)で分数は出て来ないからの疑問(question)だろう

 料理(cooking)を作る時に知らず知らずに使う、
 キャベツ(a cabbage)の四分の一(quarter)を使うとか

 時間(time)で無意識に(unconsciously)使う
 一時間の三分の一(one third; a third part)だから20分とか
 季節(a season)は四季(the four seasons)なので、一つの季節は一年の四分の一で三ヶ月(for three months)とか

 確率(a probability) 何通りの内のいくつ = 何分のいくつ

 遺産相続(inheritance)の計算 妻(a wife)は二分の一(a half) 子(a child; children, an offspring;a kid;a boy; a son;a girl; a daughter)はさらに細かく(to pieces)、、、。
