(Many people in the world)は、学校(a school)で習う数学(be taught, take lessons in Math)が役に立たない(futile; idle; inefficient; useless; worthless)と思っているでしょう(maybe think)。
中学(a junior high school)で習う一次方程式(a linear equation)など、実社会で(in the real)そのまま使うことは、まずありません(rarely )。
それでいい人は、それで構いません(That's all right.)。
多くの人の実感(a feeling of reality)は、「学校で習う数学は、次の学校の入学試験(an entrance examination)に合格する(pass)ために役立つ(be useful)」というものです。
でも、学校で強制的に(forcibly)勉強させられる貴重な(precious; valuable)時間があるのだから、数学のイイトコロ(a strong point; a good point; a merit, an advantage)、面白い所(an interesting point)、好きな所(a favorite point, a liked point)を見つけてもらい、楽しく勉強(have fun studying)して欲しいです。
強制的に勉強させられる=受け身(defensive, passive, lose the initiative)から、楽しいから( pleasant; happy; enjoyable; delightful; merry; joyful; pleasantly, cheerfully)勉強する=前向きの姿勢(in a constructive manner, your positive attitude)になって貰いたいです。
楽しいから数学を勉強するということなら、短時間で(in a short time)理解できる(intelligible; understandable)し、実力(real ability, real power, be good at math, be proficient in math)も合わせて付きます(improve)。また、将来(in the future)その数学を思い出す(recall, remind)時、何かに応用できる(hit on ..., be applicable to ...)
ところで、社会に出て(go out into the world)高い地位について(holds a high position)高額の報酬(excessive remuneration, extremely high-paying)を得ている人のかなりの割合(a substantial proportion of)は、高校ぐらいで習う数学程度は、理解されています。
こういう人の仕事(job, work)といえば、お金(money)にまつわる銀行(a bank)・株式(stock, shares)・経理(accounting)・税務(taxation business)、研究(research)・設計(design)・開発(development)の技師(an engineer)の仕事、事業(business, enterprise)の企画(planning)・運営(management)という経営(run a company)の仕事です。
直接的に(directly)数値(numerics)や計算(calculation; computation)に関わる仕事が多くなりますので、暗算で(mental arithmetic, calculate in your head)だいたいの見当をつける(to make a guess, to make an estimate)ことがとてもうまいです。
(It is necessary as common sense)になります。そういう仕事では、数学の勉強で知り得た考え方(a solution of a problem; how to solve a problem; an approach to a problem)(=物事がなぜそうなるのかを説明する(describe; elucidate; explain; interpret; motivate; illustrate; account for; comment on)方法)を利用されています。
数学の勉強の特徴(a special/distinctive feature; a peculiarity; a trait)は、理解の積み重ね(assiduous effort, step by step, phased)が必要であること、途中を抜かす(leave out the middle)と判らなくなります。
また数学は、暗記(learn something by heart, learning by rote)量は少なく(small in quantity, volume, amount)、体系的(systematic)なので覚えやすい(memorable)です。
数学は、お金の計算や科学の計算で必要があって発展して(develop; grow; expand; evolve; prosper)きた側面(a side, an aspect, a profile)と純粋に(purely)問題=パズル(a problem; a question; a puzzle)を解く興味(interest)から発展してきた側面があります。
そうすれば、彼らは満足してくれます(be satisfied with, be contented with, be happy with, be pleased with, , be gratified with)から。
